Primary Years Programme (PYP)

A Continuum of Understanding

At aLphabet, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) begins with our Early Years Programme and continues through PYP Years 1-5 (Grades 1–5). This creates a powerful continuum of learning for children aged 3–12, built on an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that fosters conceptual understanding.

Six Transdisciplinary Themes

These themes provide a framework for meaningful, inquiry-driven learning, helping children explore "big ideas" that shape their understanding of themselves and the world.

Who we are

Where we are in place and time

How we express ourselves

How the world works

How we organize ourselves

PYP in Action: Grades 1-5

Instead of approaching subjects in isolation, each Unit of Inquiry blends seamlessly under a transdisciplinary theme. This invites children to investigate interconnected ideas, helping them link classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Language Acquisition

Students choose between Hindi, Tamil, and French in Grade 1 and continue with it throughout their PYP journey to build fluency and intercultural awareness.

Assessment for Learning

Formative: Ongoing feedback through classwork, projects, and peer-checks.

Summative: End-of-unit projects, reports, and conferences to measure overall understanding.

Service as Action

Service is embedded in learning, empowering students to turn their inquiries into meaningful action—from caring for their environment to contributing to community initiatives.

Technology Integration

Structured ICT classes begin in Grade 1, with research skills introduced in Grade 2. By Grade 4, students use their own devices and apps like Canva and Keynote to become responsible digital learners.

The PYP Exhibition

The PYP Journey culminates in the Grade 5 PYP Exhibition. Students select a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal that inspires them and design an in-depth, self-directed project around it, showcasing all the skills and knowledge acquired during their PYP years.

Ready for the Next Challenge?

The PYP builds the foundation for students to transition smoothly into the Middle Years Programme, where they continue to develop as critical thinkers and global citizens.
